The Northwest Airlines new Midfield Terminal at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport is currently under construction and scheduled to open in December 2001. A major feature of the new Midfield Terminal will be an Automated People Mover (APM), which will operate on an elevated guideway above Gate Level in the approximately 1,493.5 meter (4,900 foot) long Concourse A which will have 64 jet gates, 10 of which are capable of handling International flights. This abstract will provide a general description of the APM at the new Midfield Terminal, which will be officially named the "Express Tram", in terms of its design and planned operation.
