Seismic Safety Design of the New San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge

Abstract
A new bridge to replace the eastern half of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge has been designed for a high level of seismic performance so that it will provide full service almost immediately after a major earthquake. This paper presents the seismic design criteria and the analysis. and design methodologies used to achieve that level of performance.
