Strategic Coast Protection Planning and Development in the UK: Lessons for Application in Other Regions

Abstract
This paper describes how a strategic approach to planning and managing future coastal defence has developed in the UK. Practical lessons have been learned in developing these plans, which can be beneficial to those considering the need for similar strategic management approaches elsewhere. It should be noted that the points made in this paper are the authors' views, based upon the development of such approaches on a number of projects and do not necessarily represent the views of national government or local authorities.
