Abstract

Kertih Port, situated on the exposed monsoon coast of Terengganu, Malaysia is located immediately updrift of Malaysia's most important pipeline landfall zone. The protection of these petrochemical pipelines against anticipated severe down-drift erosion has resulted in an extremely complex coastal protection exercise. The critical nature of the coastal protection has required the Port Management to be committed to long-term post-construction proactive management of coastal erosion resulting from the port development. The present paper presents background for the port development and the requirements for coastal protection together with the results of the five (5)-years of monitoring data and how these are utilised within the coastal management system.
