Abstract
Fuji coast, located on the left side of the Fuji river, has been severely eroded since 1970's owing to the reduction of sediment supply from the Fuji river as well as the blockage of longshore sediment transport due to the breakwaters of a harbor. In order to mitigate the erosion, gravel nourishment has been carried out on the downdrift side of an outlet since 1996. The nourished volume exceeded 3 x 105 m3 for three years. Since little experience was found on the movement of such large amount of gravels nourished on steep coast, a comprehensive field monitoring was done on the mechanism of sediment movement as well as on the loss of nourished gravels. The effect of gravel nourishment will be discussed in the paper on the basis of the monitoring from 1996 to 1998.
