Load Transfer in Rigid Airport Pavement Joints

Publication: The 2020 Vision of Air Transportation: Emerging Issues and Innovative Solutions

Abstract

Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) projects at Denver International Airport (DIA) and at the National Airport Pavement Test Facility (NAPTF), William J. Hughes Technical Center, Atlantic City International Airport, New Jersey, have yielded significant new data on load transfer behavior of rigid pavement joints. Using the results of previous finite element studies, load transfer efficiencies were predicted for doweled joints that agree reasonably well with the measured values from heavy-weight deflectometer tests.
