Regionalization of Droughts
Publication: Building Partnerships
Abstract
The basic objective of the present study is to regionalize the area defined by the States of Illinois, Indiana and Ohio in the U.S. to homogeneous drought regions. The climate in these states is similar. Monthly Palmer's Drought Severity Index (PDSI), precipitation and temperature are used in the study. The principal component analysis is the basic tool used in the study. The classification of this area into homogeneous regions by using rotated and unrotated principal components is discussed. The results indicate that classification by rotated principal components is superior to that determined by using unrotated components.
