Experimental Study of Turbulent Macro-structures behind Dunes
Publication: Building Partnerships
Abstract
An experimental study of the flow structure behind bidimentional dunes was carried out in an open channel. Flow visualization with methylene-blue tracer and particle tracking was used for qualitative description of flow macro-structure behind bed forms. Visualization was obtained simultaneously with two color video cameras Sony DXC325P and was processed with special effects Sony SEG2000A equipment. Three dimensional flow structures were detected and analyzed. Through topological streamline patterns analysis was possible to find a schematic model detailing the changing dynamics of the flow separation zone.
