The Effects of Cluster Bed Forms on the Longitudinal Velocity

Publication: Building Partnerships
Abstract
The velocity profiles upstream, atop, and downstream of cluster bed forms are examined and compared with the velocity profiles in similar locations for individual particles. Experiments were conducted for two conditions: (1) for particles with an inter-particle spacing of 6 ball diameters, and (2) for particles with an inter-particle spacing of one ball diameter. The results suggest that the presence of clusters increase the velocity magnitude atop and downstream of the clusters and reduces the friction factor at these locations.
