Absorption Behavior and Removal of Gaseous Elemental Mercury by Sodium Chlorite Solutions
Publication: Journal of Environmental Engineering
Volume 138, Issue 6
Abstract
The absorption behavior of was studied experimentally by using sodium chlorite () as the absorbent in a bubble reactor. Primary influencing factors on the removal of such as solution concentration, solution hydrogenion concentration (pH), reaction temperature, the concentration of , and other components in the flue gas, such as , , and NO, were investigated. Approximately 65% removal of elemental mercury can be achieved under optimal experimental conditions. The removal mechanism of was proposed by analyzing concentration in the spent absorption solution and comparing the electrode potentials between species and .
