Extensive Measurement Campaign Using Interferometric Radar

Abstract
Interferometric radar is popular equipment able to perform remote dynamic testing of large structures (towers, bridges, and buildings) by detecting the displacement in time in the line of sight between the radar and geometric discontinuities in the engineering structures under test. The case study of San Gimignano village in Italy has been one of the largest measurement campaigns using this kind of equipment. The masonry towers of the ancient village have been measured, and the primary lesson learned was about the limitations of this technique when used in field. Vegetation, scaffoldings, lightning rods, and narrow streets are all possible hinderances that can prevent a correct measurement of the displacement in time.
