Dr. Kent A. Harries, the guest editor for this special issue, joined the ASCE Journal of Bridge Engineering in January 2003 as associate editor specializing in bridge FRP papers. Dr. Harries is very active in the area of FRP in civil infrastructure, having experience in both structural repair and retrofit with FRP and the use of FRP bridge deck systems. Dr. Harries serves as co-chair of ACI Committee 440D–FRP Research and is an active member of ACI 335–Composite and Hybrid Structures, ACI 215–Fatigue, and ACI 439–Reinforcement. He is presently chairing the ACI 440 Task Group on Bond of FRP to Concrete and the ASCE Committee on Composites in Construction Task Group on steel-FRP composite systems. The research interests of Dr. Harries include the repair and retrofit of structures, the application of novel materials in civil infrastructure, and the seismic design and behavior of high-rise coupled structures. He is the author of more than 70 refereed articles in these areas. Currently an assistant professor of structural engineering and mechanics at the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Harries received his Ph.D. from McGill University in Montreal and was a research engineer at the ATLSS Center at Lehigh University and an assistant professor at the University of South Carolina before joining the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh.
