Quasi-Constant Discharge Diversion Structure

Publication: Journal of Hydraulic Engineering
Volume 121, Issue 11

Abstract

Main results of previous tests on diversion structures (modules) without moving members, which release a quasi-constant discharge from a reservoir in spite of large fluctuations in the upstream water level, are reported. The experimental behavior of the best module is examined by new tests. Some changes are introduced to improve the operation. The modified module consists of a shaped-crest weir with a gate above the chute and a baffle upstream from the gate. The simple diversion structure should have practical application in many fields of hydraulic works based on the results achieved.
