Emerging Technologies Impacting the Future of Transportation Automation
Innovative technology breakthroughs are blurring the lines between the physical, digital and biological spheres across a number of fields, including transportation. This Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) we are now experiencing consists of emerging technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), fifth-generation (5G) wireless technologies, artificial intelligence, robotics, and connected and automated vehicles (CAVs). These emerging technologies will help improve existing transportation issues, as well as bring a revolution to ownership models (e.g., privately owned vehicles and shared mobility) and cooperative automation-adaptive infrastructures.
