This special collection synthesizes the state-of-the-art on multiple non-contact sensor modalities, their potential benefits, limitations, and future directions in bridge engineering applications. Examples of non-contact technology highlighted in this special collection include digital image correlation, infrasound, magnetic devices and drones. The papers in the special collection underscore both the breadth and depth of activity in the area of non-contact sensing applications to bridge engineering, which is only projected to increase in the coming years. Readers are encouraged to check the collection often as additional content will be added as papers are accepted and published online.
