The special collection on the Journal of Hydraulic Engineering 60th Anniversary Papers is available in the ASCE Library at http://ascelibrary.org/page/jhend8/60th_anniversary_papers.
It is hard to believe that the Journal of Hydraulic Engineering (JHE) has reached its 60th year. Personally, I am proud to be associated with one of the premier publications of ASCE. The Journal of Hydraulic Engineering’s long-standing tradition supporting the growth of hydraulic research is a true testament to the authors, reviewers, associate editors, chief editors, and ASCE support staff who have contributed throughout the years.
To honor our collective accomplishment, we are celebrating the best way we know how, through a series of quality contributions from some of our esteemed colleagues. For this series, we approached researchers, based on input received from several of you over the years. These scientists and engineers were selected in recognition of their seminal research in hydraulic engineering and water resources, as well as their widespread vision.
In this series of anniversary papers we have eight invited manuscripts that tap into the core of JHE. The authors capture the scientific landmarks of the past and current research, as well as touch on future directions in hydraulic engineering. We have review papers exploring traditional JHE topics like turbulence, scour, and flow-channel morphology interactions. There are also more methods-based reviews, as well as smaller case studies from the numerical and field perspectives. Finally, we have papers looking at what is needed from future scientists and engineers as we push through the 21st century.
So with great pride and admiration, I would like to introduce you to the 60th anniversary collection of the Journal of Hydraulic Engineering. I hope you enjoy reading them, as much as I did. Let us use this collection as a springboard to the next 60 years of JHE.
