Editor’s Note
Publication: Journal of Cold Regions Engineering
Volume 24, Issue 4
It is with great pleasure that I announce the addition of Dr. Guy Doré of Laval University as associate editor for the Journal of Cold Regions Engineering. Dr. Doré has long been associated with the Technical Council on Cold Regions Engineering (TCCRE) and the Journal. He brings to his new position a wealth of experience in pavements, their design, and their interaction with frozen ground and permafrost.
Dr. Doré graduated with a B.S. in geological engineering from Laval University in 1980 and later completed a master’s degree in engineering geology and a doctoral degree in civil engineering, both also from Laval University.
Between 1981 and 1997 Dr. Doré occupied several different positions within the Québec Ministry of Transportation, including pavement design engineer, pavement research engineer, research coordinator, and acting service chief at the ministry’s pavement laboratory. During that period, he also served for two years at the Transportation Association of Canada in Ottawa to help develop the Canadian Strategic Highway Research Program (C-SHRP) and for one year at the National Research Council of the United States in Washington, D.C., to help develop the American Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP).
Since the summer of 1997 Dr. Doré has been a professor of pavement engineering in the Civil Engineering Department at Laval University. He teaches several road pavement courses and is very active in research on pavement response and performance in cold climates as well as on permafrost engineering. Among his numerous publications, he coauthored the books Cold Regions Pavement Engineering (ASCE Press/McGraw Hill) and Guidelines for Development and Management of Transportation Infrastructure in Permafrost Regions (Transportation Association of Canada). He currently holds the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) industrial research chair on the interaction between trucks, climate, and pavement.
Dr. Doré is also serving as the chair of the upcoming ASCE/Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE) Cold Regions Engineering Conference slated for 2012 in Quebec City.
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Doré to the Journal of Cold Regions Engineering as associate editor.
