ASCE Awards Based on Meritorious Papers

Nominations for papers should be submitted with the following: a cover letter, signed by the nominator; an Official Award Nomination form; and one copy of the paper. The nomination form can be found at http://www.asce.org/pressroom/honors/awards.cfm?prmid=3.
Alfred Noble Prize—Joint Engineering Societies competition for a technical paper of exceptional merit. The author must be 35 years of age or younger. Papers by joint authors are not eligible. Papers published in the 12 month period ending with June of the year preceding the year of award are eligible. Nominations are due October 1, 2005.
Arthur M. Wellington Prize—Profession-wide competition for papers related to transportation, foundations, or closely related subjects. Nominations are due November 1, 2005.
Collingwood Prize—Society-wide competition for papers describing an engineering work or recording investigations contributing to engineering knowledge. The author/s must be 35 years of age or younger. Coauthors over 35 years of age are eligible, provided they can attest by a signed letter that they had no part in the paper other than its review. Papers with coauthors over 35 years of age, but submitted without the required letter, will be disqualified. Nominations are due February 1, 2006.
Raymond C. Reese Research Prize—Profession-wide competition for a paper published by ASCE that describes a notable achievement in research related to structural engineering and how it can be used. Nominations are due November 1, 2005.
J. James R. Croes Medal—Society-wide competition for a paper of merit as a contribution to engineering science. Papers written jointly by members and nonmembers are ineligible. Nominations are due November 1, 2005.
Moisseiff Award—Profession-wide competition for a paper published in the field of structural design and analysis by ASCE. Papers published in the 12 month period ending with June of the year preceding the year of award are eligible. Nominations are due November 1, 2005.
Norman Medal—Society-wide competition for a paper of merit as a contribution to engineering science. Papers written jointly by members and nonmembers are ineligible. Nominations are due November 1, 2005.
ASCE State-of-the-Art of Civil Engineering Award—Society-wide competition for a state-of-the-art paper of exceptional merit. Nominations are due November 1, 2005.
T. Y. Lin Award—Society-wide competition for a paper of merit in the field of prestressed concrete. Papers published in the 12 month period ending with June of the year preceding the year of award are eligible. Nominations are due November 1, 2005.

Nominations for achievement should be submitted with the following: a cover letter, signed by the nominator; an Official Award Nomination form; the nominee’s CV or biographical information and two or three letters of recommendation. Jack E. Cermak Medal—Profession-wide competition for outstanding contributions in wind engineering. Nominations are due November 1, 2005.
Ernest E. Howard Award—Society-wide competition to recognize an individual who has made a definite contribution to the advancement of structural engineering, be it in research, planning, design, or construction. Nominations are due November 1, 2005.
George Winter Award—Profession-wide competition to recognize a structural engineer who has consistently worked to advance the state-of-the-art of the profession through the practical application of design and/or research studies. Nominations are due November 1, 2005.
Nathan M. Newmark Medal—Society-wide competition to recognize an individual who has substantially strengthened the scientific base of structural engineering through contributions in structural mechanics. Nominations are due November 1, 2005.
Shortridge Hardesty Award—Society-wide competition to recognize an individual(s) who has contributed substantially in applying fundamental results of research to the solution of practical engineering problems in the field of structural stability. Nominations are due November 1, 2005.
Walter L. Huber Civil Engineering Research Prize—Society-wide competition to recognize notable achievements in research related to civil engineering. Nominations are due October 1, 2005.

Paper submissions are also accepted, in which case, one copy of the complete nomination package should be received by the Honors and Awards Program at the ASCE Reston office by the deadline for each award. SEI Awards

Gene Wilhoite Award—Society-wide competition to recognize an individual who has made significant contributions to the advancement of the arts and science of transmission line engineering. Nominations are due November 1, 2005.
Walter P. Moore Jr. Award—Profession-wide competition to recognize a structural engineer who has demonstrated technical expertise in and dedication to the development of structural codes and standards. Nominations are due December 1, 2005.
Dennis L. Tewksbury Award—Society-wide competition recognizing an individual for outstanding service to the Structural Engineering Institute. Nominations are due November 1, 2005.

Nominations are being sought for the 2006 ASCE and SEI Awards.
The objective of the ASCE and SEI Honors and Awards Programs is to advance the engineering profession by emphasizing exceptionally meritorious achievement. Traditionally, such accomplishments have been in the form of technical papers, although many awards are based on other considerations.
Several of the ASCE and SEI awards are listed below. Complete descriptions of the respective awards and limitations that apply can be found in the ASCE 2005 Official Register. The Official Register can be accessed online at www.asce.org/or/.
