Editor’s Note

Publication: Journal of Environmental Engineering
Volume 133, Issue 12
We are now international! I am pleased to announce the appointment of new Associate Editor Heechul Choi, Ph.D., who is a Professor in the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering at Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology in Korea. Heechul completed his doctoral work at Texas A&M University and is active in environmental nanotechnology, advanced oxidation technologies, soil and groundwater remediation, and water reclamation. Of course, for many years the Journal of Environmental Engineering has published work by researchers and practitioners from around the globe. Furthermore, our corps of associate editors hail from various countries and bring a diversity of backgrounds to our ranks. But, Dr. Choi’s appointment, I believe, represents an important step in our diversification in that he is presently a faculty member at an academic institution outside of the United States. Twenty years ago, or even less, it would not have been possible to add such an individual to our corps due to the logistical problems in handling manuscripts, etc. But, given our present ability to communicate electronically, Korea is no further away from ASCE headquarters than downtown Washington, D.C. I believe this appointment is indicative of our commitment to use technology to the fullest and to enrich our corps of associate editors to represent the international constituency from which we draw our authors and our readers. Please welcome Dr. Choi to the Journal editorial ranks.
