Geotechnical Measurements: Lab and Field

Abstract

  • Proceedings of sessions of Geo-Denver 2000, held in Denver, Colorado, August 5-8, 2000. Sponsored by the Geo-Institute of ASCE. This Geotechnical Special Publication contains 14 papers that provide insight into the state of the practice in geotechnical measurements. Geotechnical measurements include observations of the physical state of subsurface materials and the ways that state responds to changes in the physical environment. Both laboratory and in situ measurements are essential to geotechnical practice and have provided the lifeblood for advances in modern geotechnical engineering. One section of papers focuses on laboratory measurements and their use to further understand and characterize geotechnical behavior. Another section focuses on the application of methods to measure actual performance of the geotechnical elements of constructed facilities.
