Abstract
In reinforced concrete construction, the importance of lessening the cost of forms has long been recognized. A recent effort in this direction has resulted in a system of construction in which columns and stems of beams and girders are cast on the ground. These units, when hard, are hoisted into place and set in mortar or grouted. The concrete skeleton or framework thus erected supports the forms for the floor-slab which is then cast in place. The slab rests on the beam and girder stems; arid is secured to them by the customary web reinforcement stirrups and bent-up or trussed tension rods.
