Pipeline River Crossings: A Design Method
Publication: Transportation Engineering Journal of ASCE
Volume 106, Issue 2
Abstract
A simple mathematical model based on tractive bed theory is outlined which can estimate the width and depth of a river channel as it scours in response to an assigned large discharge. The time required to complete each scour iteration episode is also calculated. Three examples illustrating the results are presented, with comparisons to results from regime theory methods. An advantage of the method is that the results can be expressed in a probabilistic format. A goal of the model is that it be simple enough to be run on a desk-top computer.
