Selected Areas of Aerospace Technical Applications to Civil Engineering

The ASCE Technical Council on Aerospace (now the Aerospace Div.) established a task committee in 1972 to investigate and report upon aerospace topics, objectives, and programs of interest to the civil engineering profession. The results of the initial survey were presented at the January 1974 national meeting in Los Angeles. This report is a continuance of that activity to enhance information transfer by citing demonstrations in selected areas of effective applications of aerospace techniques, systems, and approaches in or applicable to civil engineering. Four specific areas investigated were Remote Sensing; Construction and Energy Technology; Ocean Technology; and Data Acquisition, Management, and Uses. Some uses and potentials of these areas to the civil engineering community are reported. These are the current development of a casebook of examples of practice in application of data-collection systems and preparation of an annotated bibliography on advanced instrumentation, telemetry, and related technology.
