Abstract
Parametric analysis is a sketch planning technique to test the feasibility of fixed guideway systems with a variety of alternative transit technologies. This approach was used in Albuquerque, N.M., and was found to provide a relatively low-cost and efficient method of plan evaluation. In parametric analysis, alternative transit systems are specified in terms of route alignment and station location. In part, parameters of the analysis include such items as headways, speed, operating, and capital unit costs. Once the parameters are established, patronage, revenue, and costs associated with each test system are calculated at various modal split levels or capture rates. Based on the financial viability of the test system it was recommended that fixed quideway transit was not appropriate.
