Opportunity Model of Residential Distribution
Publication: Transportation Engineering Journal of ASCE
Volume 104, Issue 3
Abstract
The objective of this paper is to develop an intervening opportunity model for distributing residences of workers in relation to their place of employment. The study is conducted within the framework of a specific community and contains several interesting features. A variable probability parameter is introduced in the intervening opportunity model instead of a constant value (usually known as L parameter) as used in the past studies. An emphasis is also placed on the effects of socioeconomic factors of the seekers of residences on the probability parameter of the model. Furthermore, the analysis presented in the paper utilized census data in order to eliminate any requirement for expensive origin-destination surveys. It is believed that the findings of this study may be helpful to the siting of new land development activities in the infrastructure of an urban system.
