Activity Based Transit Routing

Abstract

The focus of this research is on the development of a methodology for off-peak hour transit routing. The technique emphasizes the need for a local style of service for major travel generators. A trade area is identified for each major activity center and nonparametric statistical testing of trip densities, travel and demographic characteristics used to identify subareas for potential transit service. Service criteria is then utilized to develop and constrain the final route design. Through the routing method developed, it is possible to orient routing to a localized center of off-peak hour activity.
