Abstract
Citizen groups forced a stop to further right-of-way acquisition for the proposed Genesee Expressway in Rochester, N.Y. The Rochester City Council created a Task Group to review and evaluate the need for, and impact of, the proposed expressway in the City. After extensive research and evaluation of other transportation systems, the consultant charged to perform the study recommended that the Genesee Expressway should not be built. Instead, a busway should be constructed as the best way to satisfy the present and future social, economic, environmental, and transportation goals for the area.
