Pipeline Corridor Selection Model Concept
Publication: Transportation Engineering Journal of ASCE
Volume 101, Issue 2
Abstract
The selection of a pipeline corridor is dependent not only on technical and economic feasibility, but also on environmental aspects. Computer programming techniques enable the investigators to select a variety of criteria that affect the corridor selection and to evaluate each criteria utilizing a numerical weighting factor. The model optimizes the corridor selection by identifying the areas causing the most problems, by enabling investigation of several alternate routes with a minimal incremental study cost, by identifying tradeoffs in capitalization costs versus adverse environmental affects, and by providing credible documentation.
