Traffic Volume Counting Recorders

Publication: Transportation Engineering Journal of ASCE
Volume 101, Issue 2

Abstract

Traffic volume counting recorders have evolved from the simple cumvlative hourly printed recorder to complex telemetry systems. A review of the state-of-the-art of traffic volume counting recorders is presented with emphasis placed on Pennsylvania's telecount system and the telemetry systems in Georgia and Michigan, No recommendations are made as to the type of recorder to use because that decision depends on the purpose of the count, the location of the count, the availability of manpower, and the budget of the agency doing the counting.
