Fatigue Concepts for Concrete Airport Pavement Design
Publication: Transportation Engineering Journal of ASCE
Volume 100, Issue 3
Abstract
Correlation is shown between fatigue and coverage methods for evaluating the effects of repeated aircraft loads on concrete pavements. Based on the correlation, a specific procedure is suggested for design of pavements carrying high volumes of mixed aircraft; included are fatigue effects due to aircraft gear configurations and transverse wander width, effect of concrete strength variation, and evaluation of safety factors used to determine pavement thicknesses for critical and noncritical traffic areas. Examples indicate that the procedure gives results in agreement with present civil and military design methodologies and performance experience.
