Evaluation of New Systems for Urban Transportation

Publication: Transportation Engineering Journal of ASCE
Volume 98, Issue 4

Abstract

The development of large numbers of advanced technology transportation systems for urban applications has created the need for planning tools which respond to generalized system attributes for network planning and trip assignment. Alternative public investments in urban transportation systems must be evaluated according to the ability to improve the mobility of people and simultaneously satisfy increasingly rigorous standards of social and environmental impact. Goals have been defined for the development of planning capabilities building on the models and analytical procedures which are in current use. In application, these tools should provide not only the capability for evaluation of new transportation systems and technologies but should also permit the indentification of system characteristics and attributes which should be incorporated in future developments.
