A Concept of the Regime Theory

The regime theory is analyzed on the basis of the bed-load function. It has been found that, within the limits of the observed flows on which the regime theory was derived, the “silt” factor, f_VR, depends on the sediment concentration of the channel flow whereas another factor, f_RS, is a function of the size of the bed material. By using these functionul relationships between sediment characteristics and silt factors, the depth and slope of an a lluvial channel in regime can be determined either by the bed-load function or by the regime theory with almost no diffcrnncc between the two. The use of the regime theory for cond itions other than those in India and Pakista n should be approached with great care because the si lt factor depends also on the characteristics of the flow.
