Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to present the critical lateral loads and the corresponding critical bending stresses at midspan for prismatic I-beams having equal, linear, rotational restraints at both ends. In actual structures such end restraint is commonly provided by the connections. It is of importance to determine the increase of the lateral buckling load which results from this restraint. The critical loads for encl-restrained bars of rectangular cross section have been considered by G. Winter,4 M. ASCE, and A. R. Flint. 5
