Contributions of Engineering to Health Advancement

Abstract
The engineering profession has been instrumental in the successful fight against disease in the United States. Virtual elimination of the intestinal and insect-borne diseases proved the true value of engineering accomplishment. This paper reviews the unbelievable sanitary conditions that existed in former years and traces the work of the sanitary engineer in curbing the disease rate. Progress to date is evaluated, and a program for future development is suggested. The paper touches on many related problems that await solution by the sanitary engineer.
