Abstract
Material available, although not conclusive, shows that the United States is faced with a slowing up in the rate of growth. The greatest intensity of this change is felt in cities. During the decade 1910-1920 the population of New York, N. Y., increased 17.8% and that of the nation 14.9%. The increase was 23.3% for the city and 6.1 % for the nation during the period 1920- 1930. The U. S. Census Bureau reports ah increase (in 1940) of only 6.5% for New York City and an increase of 7% for the continental United States since 1930.
