Abstract
The text contains a practical description of a method of designing skew arches. Parts of it are built upon the theory first presented by Professor Rathbun, with special adaptations developed from experience in the draftingroom. Complete derivations of formulas are given for symmetrical and unsymmetrical, and for fixed and two-hinged arches. A theory for proportioning the sections is developed which is believed to be entirely new. An approximate “short-cut” for designing Rigid Frames also forms a part of the paper. Numerical examples are given to demonstrate the theory.
