Abstract

The object of this paper is to set forth the problems that the civil engineer is called upon to solve in order to make “super-power” a possibility. To this end the civil engineering features of the design and construction of the Kearny Power Station are treated, each phase of the work separately. The Kearny Power Station is “situated on the west bank of the Hackensack River in the Town of Kearny, N. J., about midway between Newark and Jersey City, and is interconnected with the Essex and :Marion Stations by a 132 000-volt transmission line supported on steel towers. It is the largest electric generating station in the State of New Jersey and will have a capacity of more than 400 000 kv-a. when completed.
