Abstract
This subject will be discussed from the standpoint of the contracting engineer, with particular reference to the aid that can be derived in making estimates of the cost of earth work from a series of laboratory tests of samples of the earth to be moved. When a project is under consideration, one of the vital factors to be given attention by all concerned is, “What will the work cost?” The point of view of each interested party depends on his personal interest in the work.
