Abstract
In view of the fact that, at present, there is little information relating to the quantity of run-off, impounded storage, back-water curves, and other matters of direct importance to drainage districts in the Mississippi Valley, and that even these vary greatly in different localities, it is believed that a record of such features for Southeastern Missouri will be of some value; also, as little has been written concerning the assessment of benefits accruing from the construction of reclamation systems, an outline of this work, as applied to the territory included within this district, will be of value to those engaged in operations of this kind. A record of the assumptions and data on which the work of the St. John Levee and Drainage District has been designed, compared with the actual results obtained after its completion, will give an authoritative basis for future undertakings.
