Abstract

During the summer and autumn of 1911 the writer ran a number of efficiency tests on two of the 6 000-h.p. hydraulic turbine units recently installed in the power-house of the St. Lawrence River Power Company, at Massena, N. Y. On one of the units, two sets of tests were run, one prior, and one subsequent, to cutting off several feet of the draft-tubes. On the other unit, one set of tests was run after the draft-tubes had been shortened, as had been done in the case of the other turbine unit.
