Abstract

In this paper will be given a brief description of the design, equipment, and construction of a pumping station recently constructed for the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway at Silver Grove, Ky., as a part of the terminal improvements carried out by the company with which the writer is connected. It was estimated that the ultimate quantity of water which would be required to supply the terminal would not exceed 1 000 000 gal. per 24 hours, and that the demand would be at a fairly uniform rate throughout that period. As the terminal is near the bank of the Ohio River, water was to be obtained from that stream and delivered to two 100 000-gal. tanks on towers 45 ft. high.
