Improved Stability of Dronkers' Tidal Schemes

Abstract
Stability conditions of Dronkers' explicit finite difference schemes for tidal computations in rivers and open channels are derived. In addition to the CFL condition, more stringent stability conditions are found. Changing the approximation of the nonlinear terms by applying the Angled Derivative method results in a second-order finite difference scheme of the same computational efficiency as a purely explicit scheme for which the only stability condition is the CFL condition.
