Abstract
A pronounced correlation between water temperature, shifts in the stage-discharge relationship, and bed roughness forms in the Missouri River near Omaha was reported by the U.S. Army District, Omaha, after conducting a comprehensive data collection program in 1966-1969 and 1975 in a 7-mile (11.3-km) reach of the Missouri River. This paper presents and analyzes field data collected in this reach. It is found that the form resistance curve proposed by Einstein and Barbarossa can be used to describe the flow resistance, and the bed form prediction diagram presented by Vanoni is very applicable. Based on Vanoni's curve, a criterion is developed to predict the change of bed form in the Missouri River near Omaha due to river temperature.
