Abstract
The results of an experimental investigation of the discharge of submerged slot jet near a free surface are presented. These results are compared to an analysis which is developed to predict the jet trajectory, velocity profile, and temperature profile. The effects of jet submergence, velocity, and buoyancy are studied. The unique feature of the submerged slot jet is the presence of a confined vortex which acts to move the jet to the surface. From the comparisons presented it is seen that the analysis, which includes the effect of the vortex on the flow, is in good agreement with the data.
