Orthonormalization Applied to Ground-Water Flows

Abstract
The Gram-Schmidt orthonormalization procedure is presented as a numerical method easily adaptable to digital computation for the solution to steady-state ground-water flow problems. The advantages of this method are: (1) a series solution is attained and (2) arbitrary shaped aquifers with arbitrary boundary conditions can be handled. The method is illustrated by application to a well flow problem in a confined aquifer.
