Abstract
A new approach for calculation of bed load considering the total energy balance of the flow with mobile bed has been presented in this paper. There exists wide divergence between measured values of transported bed load and those computed by formulas based on the concept of force while the correspondence is satisfactory with the proposed bed load equation. The proposed equation utilizes the known hydraulic parameters and sediment characteristics along with the Shields' critical tractive force curve.
