Abstract

Theoretical development and an experimental investigation are considered of the transformation of water-wave characteristics in the reflection transmission processes through a channel transition of constant width and gradually varying depth, connecting two prismatic channels of constant cross section. The theoretical development is based on small amplitude linearized shallow wave theory in an inviscid homogeneous and incompressible fluid. Reflection and transmission coefficients were derived theoretically on the basis of the above theory. A numerical evaluation of reflection and transmission coefficients shows fair agreement with the experimental findings.
