Abstract
A flow equation has been developed from the Brown-Einstein formula equation which was not examined. Kalinske's bed load formula can be expressed in terms of Einstein's φ and ψ functions. The Brown-Kalinske formula reveals a slight exponential discrepancy when compared with the Brown-Einstein formula. In other respects, the two formulas are identical. The flow equation which is deduced has been checked by plotting Gilbert's and the Simons-Richardson data. A modification of the Brown-Einstein formula has been suggested in order to extend its applicability to the zone of low shear stress. In the light of this modification, it has been explained as to why Lacey's equations fail for low rates of sediment transport, a fact which has been frequently stressed by the regime scholars.
