Interior Drainage for Hurricane Protection
Publication: Journal of the Hydraulics Division
Volume 94, Issue 2
Abstract
The design of interior drainage systems for hurricane protection projects involves many aspects of hydrology and hydraulics, including rainfall and tide studies, urban hydrology, synthetic hydrograph procedures, reservoir routing, pump selection, etc. The application of these procedures to interior drainage design, with particular reference to the Port Arthur hurricane protection project, is presented. The development of design criteria, including hydrograph characteristics, rainfall, tides and ponding levels, is described. A summary of design studies leading to selection of pump station capacities, gravity outlet sizes, and other project features is presented.
