Some Analytical Results for Planet 90° Bend Flow

Publication: Journal of the Hydraulics Division
Volume 93, Issue 6

Abstract

Analysis of inviscid nonturbulent flow around bends preceded and followed by straight conduits on a potential and frozen-vorticity basis indicates the manner in which bend curvature and approach velocity profile affect the flow. Separation is found more likely the sharper the curvature and the more pointed the velocity profile. The approach flow has less effect on cavitation susceptibility and metering characteristics of bends.
